Why I'm standing

I believe we need councillors who don't just listen but also act and provide challenge when we need change. I've not been involved in party politics before. I'm a dad with a normal job, not a career politician, but I have some relevant experience.

I'm active in the community.
I led the Save The Step campaign that brought over 550 locals together to create the Hillbilly Social on Myddleton Road and now provides grants for community projects. That showed me that together we can make a difference and improve our local area.
I took that insight and supported a campaign to make the junction by Bounds Green station safer. We convinced the council to add a yellow box and change the light phasings to make it less dangerous for pedestrians to cross (though there's still more to do).

I've uncovered a scandal that requires political change.
I discovered that a vulnerable resident on Myddleton Road was living in a rodent-infested, mouldy HMO with no planning permission... and had been placed there by the council! And she's not the only one.
After getting nowhere with my local Labour local councillor, I contacted the Guardian who exposed the story nationally. I got the Council's monitoring officer to start an investigation. And I launched the Safe Homes Haringey petition to demand five simple changes to help renters living in unsafe accommodation.

Labour's response? They're dismissing it.
When the Lib Dems put these five policies in a motion to Full Council, with support from other parties and independents, Labour voted it down, choosing to continue without safety inspections before licensing HMOs, preserving the status quo and pretending everything is fine.

I'm fighting to improve Myddleton Road and our parks.
I am also fighting for community-led improvements to Myddleton Road and our green spaces. £115,000 has been sitting for years in a fund for community projects in our area. In November, I finally secured a crucial funding meeting. Five residents took time off work to attend. But the Labour councillors cancelled on us the night before.
Two weeks later, they have not replied to reschedule. We have the ideas and the energy, we just need councillors who will show up.

My priorities for Bounds Green

  • A local voice that listens

  • Fix our high street & parks

  • Tough on rogue landlords

  • Make our roads safe

  • Challenge council culture
